Pastor Carey Harrell has served as Senior Pastor of Church Alive International since January 2000. He helped establish the church in 1992, serving as Co-Pastor under the leadership of his father-in-law, Pastor Melvin West. Pastor Carey also served the Roanoke Valley as owner & operator of Harrell Construction Co. from 1994 through 2001.
Pastor Carey is blessed to have been raised in a pastor's home and gleaned much of his wisdom and knowledge of the Word of God from his father and mother. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Education from Southern Bible College in Houston, Texas in 1978. He and his wife, Vannie, have been married for thirty-four years and have two daughters, Amy and Staci, one son-in-law, Tim, and one granddaughter, Reagan Kaylee. One of the distinguishing marks of Pastor Carey's ministry is his genuine love of people and desire for God, which is expressed in his delivery of the Word each week at Church Alive International. He has a passionate desire to see people elevated from mediocre living to the abundant life Christ came to give us!

Pastor Vannie Harrell

Pastor Vannie Harrell has been actively involved in ministry most of her life, and began preaching at age fourteen. She represents the third-generation of Spirit-filled ministers in her family and cherishes the heritage passed to her from her parents, Founding Pastors Melvin and Evangeline West.
Pastor Vannie considers it a great privilege to serve alongside her husband as Administrator at Church Alive International. One of her greatest honors is leading the Life Group Ministry of the church, along with having developed and now overseeing the School of Leaders. After leading the Praise Team for 9 years (1997 - 2005), Pastor Vannie passed the leadership of the team to her daughter, Amy; however, her passion in high, energetic praise and intimate worship is still exhibited as she continues to serve in the Praise Team and leads special event choirs throughout the year.
